Register here.

Suitable for children and adults. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Join artist Simon Brascoupé for an afternoon of storytelling and hands-on art-making. Learn from authentic birchbark baskets and create a basket of your very own from studio materials.  This workshop pays tribute to the history and process of Anishinābe (Algonquin) birchbark basket making, a traditional and ongoing labour of love.

Simon Brascoupé is an Ottawa resident and internationally reknowned Algonquin artist from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg. He has exhibited throughout North America, Europe and Asia and his work is represented in various collections including the Ottawa Art Gallery, Canadian Museum of History, the Smithsonian Institution, as well as other major corporate and private collections. His public art, Birch Bark Basket (2016), is located at Place Abinan in Gatineau and he is working on new public art for Pimisi Station, as part of Ottawa’s Light Rail project.
